Jemur Privacy Policy
Effective 10 October 2026. Last updated 16 October 2026 (what changed).
In short: Jemur has no accounts and no ads. It needs only a rough location (about 5 km) to check the sky over your home. Your drying spot settings stay on your phone. We never sell your information.
Who we are
Jemur is made by OffstageApps, an independent developer based in Malaysia. If you have any question about this policy or your information, email hello@offstageapps.com.
What Jemur uses, and why
Approximate location
If you allow it, Jemur reads your location on your phone and rounds it to a grid of about 5 km (0.05 degrees) before sending it to our server. Our server uses that rounded location to fetch the forecast, haze levels and official weather warnings for your area. Your precise location is never sent to our server.
To show the name of your town, Jemur uses the place-name lookup built into your phone (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android). That lookup is handled by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies.
If you do not allow location, Jemur shows Petaling Jaya instead.
Your settings
Whether the spot where you dry your laundry is covered, which way it faces, your haze preference, language, morning notification time and whether your laundry is out are stored on your phone. They are used on your phone to work out the verdict.
Notifications
If you turn on notifications, we store on our server what we need to send them: a push token (a random code from Apple or Google that lets us send notifications to this app on your phone), your rounded location, your drying spot settings, language, notification time, and whether you have marked laundry as out. This lets us send the morning verdict and rain alerts. We do not ask for or store your name, email address or phone number.
Some alerts show a small picture. Your phone downloads it from our website, offstageapps.com, the way it loads any web page, so our hosting provider sees that request like any other (see Technical logs). Nothing about you is added to it.
Feedback
If you answer "Did it dry?", we receive your answer with the date, the verdict Jemur gave, how long the laundry was out, whether your drying spot is covered, partly covered or open, and your rounded area. It is sent without anything that identifies you or your phone, it is not linked to your notification registration, and we use it only to make the forecast more accurate. You can skip the question.
Technical logs
Like any internet service, our hosting provider sees the IP address and time of each request in order to deliver it and to protect the service from abuse. These logs are kept for a few days for security and fixing problems. We do not store IP addresses in our app database.
What Jemur does not do
- No accounts, logins or passwords.
- No advertising, and no advertising or analytics tools inside the app.
- No tracking you across other apps or websites.
- No selling or renting of your information.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers to run Jemur. They only process information to provide their service to us:
- Cloudflare hosts our server and database.
- Expo, with Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, delivers notifications.
- Open-Meteo provides weather and air quality data. Our server sends it only the rounded grid location, never anything about you.
- MET Malaysia, via data.gov.my, provides weather warnings. No information about you is sent.
- Google provides air quality data (Google Maps Platform) where no community sensor is close to your area. Our server sends it only the rounded grid location, never anything about you. The Google Privacy Policy applies to Google's handling of that request.
- AirGradient provides readings from its public network of community air sensors. No information about you, and no location, is sent.
- Singapore's National Environment Agency provides official PM2.5 readings that we use to check the community sensors. No information about you, and no location, is sent.
- The US Aviation Weather Center provides the weather reports of Malaysian airports. No information about you, and no location, is sent.
These providers may process data outside Malaysia.
How long we keep it
- Information on your phone stays until you change it or delete the app.
- Your notification registration is deleted when you turn off notifications in Jemur, when Apple or Google tell us the app is no longer installed, and in any case after 90 days without the app checking in.
- Anonymous feedback may be kept to improve accuracy over time.
Your choices and rights
You can decline location access, turn notifications off, or delete the app at any time. Under Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010 you may ask to access or correct personal data we hold about you, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@offstageapps.com and we will respond within 21 days. Because Jemur has no accounts, we may need a detail from your phone (such as the time you turned on notifications) to find your information. Step by step: how to delete your Jemur data.
Children
Jemur is a general weather tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If Jemur changes how it uses information, for example if a future version adds advertising, we will update this page before that version is released and change the date at the top.
- 16 October 2026: added Google's air quality data as a source, and our Terms of Use.
- 15 October 2026: removed the Department of Environment Malaysia as a source; added AirGradient and Singapore's National Environment Agency; said that the picture in some alerts comes from our website.
- 12 October 2026: added the Department of Environment Malaysia and airport weather reports as sources; said exactly what a "Did it dry?" answer contains.
